Chocolate Peanut Butter Donuts

Chocolate Peanut Butter Donuts – A delicious baked chocolate donut topped with creamy peanut butter frosting! These donuts are perfect for breakfast or dessert!

These donuts might just be the ultimate breakfast recipe ever. Chocolate and peanut butter is the perfect combination of flavors, I love just about anything that has that combo so when I was thinking about what I wanted to make to show off Peanut Butter & Cocoa PEBBLES™ Cereal, I came up with so many amazing ideas! I finally decided on these chocolate peanut butter donuts and they turned out exactly how I hoped they would!

The base of these donuts is a baked chocolate donut and then it is topped with a creamy peanut butter frosting that is incredibly addicting. I was worried I would run out of the frosting because I may or may not have been snagging a spoonful here or there while I was making the donuts… it was that good! The topping of these donuts is Peanut Butter & Cocoa PEBBLES™ Cereal which give it a bit of texture and crunch, plus it brings in more chocolate and peanut butter flavor!

To get the Peanut Butter & Cocoa PEBBLES™ Cereal, I popped over to my local Walmart. It’s a new crispy rice cereal made with real cocoa and peanut butter that will rock your world with best flavor combination of all time! We have been really enjoying having it for breakfast with milk in the mornings because it is an easy and delicious way to start off the day!

After heading home from Walmart, I got to work whipping up these donuts. You need to make sure you have a donut pan as they are baked in it but those are available at Walmart also or online for a few dollars. It takes about 15 minutes to make the donuts and then they have to bake for about 12 minutes so it’s a very quick recipe to make overall.

Ingredients

Chocolate Donuts

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

Peanut Butter Frosting

  • 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3-4 tablespoons heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Additional Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Peanut Butter & Cocoa Pebbles

Instructions

Chocolate Peanut Butter Donuts

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray donut pan with non-stick spray.  Set aside.

  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together eggs, milk, and unsalted butter.  Once well combined, slowly mix in dry ingredients until just combined.  Gently fold in chocolate chips.

  4. Use a spoon or transfer to a pastry bag to get the batter into each of the donut molds in the pan.  Fill until 2/3 of the way full.  Once each of the donut molds is filled, place in oven and bake for 11-13 minutes or until the donuts are cooked through and spring back when touched.

  5. Once the donuts are out of the oven, let cool for 5 minutes in the donut pan before transferring to a cooling rack.

Peanut Butter Frosting

  1. In a microwave safe bowl, microwave the peanut butter and butter until melted.  Transfer to a mixing bowl and mix in heavy cream.  Once combined, slowly mix in powdered sugar until smooth and spreadable.  If the frosting seems too thick to spread, add up to one more tablespoon of heavy cream.  If the frosting is too thick, add 1-2 more tablespoons or powdered sugar.

Assembly

  1. Once the donuts are cooled, spread the peanut butter frosting on top.  Top with  Peanut Butter & Cocoa Pebbles.

Baked donuts are the BEST. So much better than fried. These sound delicious, and I know my grandkids would LOVE them. Guess it’s time to bring out the donut pans and head into the kitchen.

Baked Donuts are definitely the best. I only eat them when we bake them. I love how simple and easy this is. The kids would love this. Never eaten peanut buttercream with donuts so this sounds delicious.

Baked donuts are great and I do prefer them to fried ! The chocolate with the peanut butter would certainly be a favorite with anyone — children and adults. Baking season is coming up — this is certainly going to be on the list.

I have never seen that breakfast cereal in Canada! But I am sure these donuts would taste good without the cereal topping!
